Monty Montgomery Neysmith
Monty Montgomery Neysmith
Monty Montgomery was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica. This talented and charismatic singer started to write and create music in his early years. While studying in London, England, Monty met with fellow Jamaican musicians on the weekends. This led to the creation of the worldwide known “SYMARIP / PYRAMIDS” with hits like Skinhead Moonstomp, Traintour to Rainbow City, Skinhead Girl, Mexican Moonlight, All Change On the Bakerloo Line, Must Catch a Train to Night, and others. This band reached the British Charts and toured all over Europe. Monty collaborated with the legendary “Godfather of SKA” Laurel Aitken and Eddie Grant.
Keith & Tex
Keith & Tex
Born in Saint Andrew Parish & Pembroke Hall, respectively, the legendary rocksteady duo Keith & Tex recorded multiple hits with famed Jamaican producer Derrick Harriot from 1966-1970 including Stop That Train, This is the One, Tonight, Don’t Look Back, & Let Me Be The One, with Stop That Train being featured on the Harder They Come soundtrack. Keith & Tex’s live performances are punctuated with stories about their early musical impressions and experiences and the impact it has had on their lives. They are continuing their journey of love and respect for the music, performing, recording and enjoying their special “Rocksteady” vibes now, more than ever.
Control This!
Control This!
Control This! has quickly risen to the top of the Central Florida ska and reggae scene since its formation in March of 2012. Formed by saxophonist Jeff Richey, Control This! provides authentic ska, rocksteady and early reggae sounds. After touring the globe for 9+ years in the legendary 2-tone and 3rd wave ska band, The Toasters, Jeff has decided to go back and rediscover the root of his passion for Jamaican music. Control This! pays tribute to Studio One and Treasure Isle sounds of the 1960's and 1970's. From fast-paced traditional ska instrumentals, to the bubbling sounds of rocksteady, to the heavy sounds of lover's rock and reggae, Control This! touch on all the nuances and sophistication of the early Jamaican music.
The Duppies
The Duppies
-Duppy: (noun) taken from Jamaican folklore; an unruly spirit risen from a consecrated grave; a ghost; a poltergeist- Formed in 2004, The Duppies have been sighted possessing many a unsuspecting citizen and driving them into frenetic dancing spasms that can only be described as "musical convulsions of the soul." Fermenting in the dirty south swamps of Gainesville, FL, The Duppies have set out to conquer all non-believers in a display of sweet musical Armageddeon… "THIS IS NEWSFLASH! / Lisen dis and lisen good! / As we lead yah now to da gallows wood! / Open yah ears to da sweet and fine, cuz no one's Rocksteady is as sweet as mine! / And don't ya step into our discotech, cuz you know the riddim it gonna BREAK YUH NECK!!!"
